Actif Anywhere for Schools
Actif Anywhere for Schools is an innovative programme that brings live-steamed and on-demand physical activity sessions directly into classrooms and school halls, making it easier than ever to keep pupils active.
Take a look at this video to see how: Actif Anywhere - Actif
With a flexible timetable, schools can choose from a wide variety of sessions tailored to different age groups and fitness levels. Whether joining live or accessing the extensive video library, schools can integrate physical activity into their day in a way that suits their schedule.
The programme supports curriculum-based skill development through activities like dance and ball skills, reducing pressure on teachers to deliver P.E. The on-demand sessions provide an ideal resource for after-school clubs, which, combined with an adult fitness zone for staff makes Actif Anywhere for Schools a comprehensive wellbeing resource for the whole school community.

Young Leadership Programme
Our programme, delivered in secondary schools, provides opportunities for pupils to develop skills, confidence and experience through volunteering roles such as coaching and refereeing in sporting events and community clubs.
Pupils are invited to attend a number of coaching workshops and supported by our team with ongoing mentoring to ensure they develop confidence within their role as a young leader.
The programme has seen strong engagement across Carmarthenshire, with 75 pupils from 7 secondary schools engaged in the 2024/25 academic year. Pupils can access the opportunity and programme from year 10 through their secondary school Physical Education departments or register below -
Young Ambassador Programme
Our YA Programme continues to support pupils from year 5 through to year 13 to become the next generation of leaders in sport. Working with both primary, secondary and Additional Learning Needs schools our team provides the ambassadors with training and mentoring so that they develop into confident leaders.
Bronze Sports Ambassadors: Empowering Year 5 and 6 pupils to be the voice and advocate of physical activity and sport within their schools delivering and leading extra-curricular activities. All primary schools are invited to nominate their Young Sports Ambassadors who then gain access to a range of training and support sessions throughout the academic year to start their journey towards being a leader / volunteer of the future.
Silver Sports Ambassadors: Developing young people to become future leaders of Wales through sport and physical activity. Pupils in year 8-11 apply to be their secondary silver ambassador and through a selection process are elected their school ambassadors. These ambassadors are provided additional training outside of the curriculum to help inspire and motivate their peers to be active for life.
Gold Sports Ambassadors: Are interviewed to be countywide leaders, who access regional training and support which are then responsible for empowering young people with a voice to influence the choices of opportunities to be healthier and more active. They are utilised to facilitate activities, build belonging, and tackle inequalities, to ensure young people can gain equal access to opportunities to be healthier and more active.
Pupils in secondary schools are invited to apply for the position as their school Silver / Gold Ambassadors, applications are open from 1st September and close on 4th October.
Young Sports Ambassadors in Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Units
We are proud to launch a Young Sports Ambassador training programme tailored specifically for ALN students in secondary and primary school ALN units across Carmarthenshire. This initiative ensures that ALN pupils have the same access to leadership, responsibility, and inclusion as their mainstream peers.
The programme has been specially adapted to meet the unique strengths and needs of ALN students. Here's how it works:
-
Different levels of responsibility tailored to each student
-
Practical training sessions focused on leading and assisting physical activities
-
Supporting staff with setting up and managing equipment
-
Assisting other pupils during sports activities at their school
-
Buddy system with mainstream Young Ambassadors
-
Mentoring by Actif Inclusion Officers within each school
This layered approach gives students the confidence and capability to take on leadership roles in school sport and beyond.
Training Opportunities for School Staff
Physical Literacy: Our Active Young People officers work with primary schools to upskill, mentor and support them to deliver sessions in curricular and extra-curricular time. Ongoing support by the team, ensures that staff are confident to deliver high-quality physical activity sessions. The resource is designed to give leaders a variety of ideas to help them encourage children to develop their physical competence, confidence and motivation to continue to take part in physical activity and sport.
Sport Specific: We work closely with National Governing Bodies of Sport to ensure that school staff have opportunities to attend sport specific coaching courses so that they can deliver these sports in their schools. Giving children experiences in a variety of different sports from a young age! We work with governing bodies such as; Welsh Athletics – Run, Jump Throw, British Cycling – Ready Set Ride, Welsh Netball – Essential Skills and Welsh Basketball – Teachers Award to name a few.
Festival/Events
Throughout the school year, we organise a number of multi-skills and sport festivals and competitions where pupils have the opportunity to try a sport for the first time!
We do this by;
• Working in partnership with external organisations such as Swansea City Foundation, National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB’s) including Cricket Wales and local sports clubs to develop participation opportunities within Carmarthenshire.
• Ensuring exit routes from school projects and programmes to community.
We understand that not all schools can attend our festivals and events and are working on a Festival Toolkit: In addition to our own festivals, we’re creating an easy-to-use toolkit to help teachers and schools confidently deliver fun and engaging sports festivals for their pupils at their school or in their community.
Youth Empowerment
With funding secured from Hywel Dda, Actif Communities launched the Youth Empowerment initiative—an early intervention programme aimed at supporting young people aged 11–14 who are at risk of substance misuse.
This preventative project was delivered in collaboration with key partners such as the NHS, charities, outdoor education centres and Actif facilities. A new project is due to be launched in October 2025.
School Sports Survey
School Sport Survey 2026: The Sport Wales national survey gives pupils a voice in shaping PE and school sport. The results are Estyn-recognised, support school self-evaluation and planning.
