Your Accessibility Guide to Canolfan Pentre Awel

Canolfan Pentre Awel is Carmarthenshire County Council’s flagship facility and has been designed with inclusion at its core.  The Actif facilities within offer a range of accessible changing areas to suit varying requirements, both on the ground floor and first floor which can be accessed via a lift.   These include:

Ground Floor

Dryside Accessible Changing Areas: 
Male and Female group changing rooms located on the ground floor opposite the sportshall.  Both areas are wheelchair accessible with shower provision including a shower seat, grab rails and privacy curtain.  Door dimension 1000mm.

Dryside Accessible Changing Cubicles:  
Two accessible changing cubicles are located on the ground floor opposite the sportshall and include a shower seat, grab rails, privacy curtain, toilet and sink.  Door dimensions 1000mm.

Wetside Accessible Changing Village:

• Two accessible changing rooms within the pool changing village, which include a shower seat, grab rails, privacy curtain, toilet and sink, door dimensions 1000mm.  
• Two accessible shower / baby changing cubicles within the pool changing village, which include a shower, seat, privacy curtain, grab rails, and baby changing unit, door dimensions 1000mm.
• One  accessible toilet / baby changing cubicle within the pool changing village which includes toilet, sink, grab rails, and baby changing unit, door dimension 1000mmm
• One accessible toilet within the pool changing village, which includes toilet, sink, and grab rails, door dimension 1000mm.

Hydrotherapy Changing Rooms

• Changing Places 1: Changing room with additional floor space, toilet, adjustable sink, adjustable bed, shower, and track hoist, door dimension 900mm
• Changing Places 2:  Changing room with additional floor space, toilet, adjustable sink, adjustable bed, shower, and track hoist, door dimension 900mm
• Accessible Toilets / Baby Changing:  Male and Female accessible toilets which include additional floor space, toilet, grab rails and a sink, door dimension 1000mm.

First Floor

• Wetside Accessible Toilet: One accessible toilet is located opposite the pool viewing area which includes additional space, toilet, grab rails and a sink, door dimension 1000mm.
• Dryside Accessible Changing Cubicle:  One accessible changing cubicle is located in the corridor opposite the Spin Studio and includes additional floor space, shower seat, grab rails, privacy curtain, toilet and a sink, door dimension 1000mm.

There are a range of toilets that cater for individual requirements.

• Unisex – these can be found throughout the facility
• Accessible – these can be found throughout the facility
• Mobility – these can be found throughout the facility
• Female Only – these can be found in the wetside changing village
• Male Only – these can be found in the wetside changing village

The table below provides the dimensions of our accessible changing and toilet cubicles at Canolfan Pentre Awel. This includes both standard accessible facilities and those designed to meet Changing Places specifications. Use this information to plan your visit and ensure the space meets your needs. All measurements are in millimetres (mm).

Dryside - Ground Floor

Changing Places facilities are designed for users whose requirements render the standard accessible toilets unsuitable.  The areas include specialist equipment e.g., height adjustable changing bed, additional floor space and track hoist.

The Changing Places facilities at Canolfan Pentre Awel are available for customers using the centre. To help us ensure the facility is ready and meets your needs, we kindly ask that you book in advance or let us know before your visit.

If you plan to use the ceiling hoist, please let our team know at the time of booking. You’ll need to bring your own hoist sling, and this can be discussed with a member of staff so we can make sure everything is suitable and ready for you. Hoist make and model: AirRise 350.

Responsibility for providing care, assistance and supervision within the Changing Places toilet remains with the carer, personal assistant or family member at all times.

Actif Sport and Leisure and Canolfan Pentre Awel staff are not able to provide personal care or routine assistance and will only intervene in the event of an emergency.

Booking Process:

• Only Changing Places 1 and 2 require booking in advance of attendance.  Please contact Actif Contact Centre on 01267 224700 or visit Actif Customer Services at Canolfan Pentre Awel where a member of staff will discuss your requirements and advise on the most appropriate changing area for your needs.
• Please note that users must bring their own hoist sling. This will be discussed at the time of booking. Hoist make and model: AirRise 350.

Attendance:

• On arrival please check in at the Actif Customer Services and a member of staff will be called to guide you to the changing area.

Entry:

• Entry to Changing Places 1 and 2 is only with the assistance of a member of staff.  This reduces the potential for a cross over of bookings.
• Wetside accessible changing rooms are available with every booked swimming session.

Duration:

• The changing rooms and Changing Places are available for you to use before and after your booked session.
• You are required to place your belongings in the free-to-use lockers provided whilst using the facilities.

Customer Request
Customers can make a request for services by phoning Actif’s Contact Centre or visiting Actif Customer Services at Canolfan Pentre Awel and speaking with a member of staff who will assist with the booking. 

Requests can be made via email, but the response time may be longer.  Phone calls will be answered by a member of Actif staff who will be able to assist with you with your query.  Please note they may not be based at Canolfan Pentre Awel.

Staff Procedure
Upon receiving a request a member of staff will discuss your requirements to ensure they can advise you on the most appropriate changing arrangements.  If a booking is required, this can be carried out at site or over the phone prior to attending.  On arrival at Canolfan Pentre Awel please go to Actif Customer Services where a staff member will assist you with accessing the changing facility.  

Feedback
All feedback on your visit or interaction is welcomed and viewed as a way to continually improve the service we provide.  This can be via a direct conversation with a member of staff or emailing Actif@camarthenshire.gov.uk

• All toilets and accessible changing facilities are equipped with waste bins.
• Contaminated waste can be placed in the bins and will be disposed of in accordance with legislation.

Phone Actif Customer Services and speak to a member of staff who will assist you with your booking.

We envision that the Changing Places facilities will be in demand and recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

You are advised to book the changing facilities at the same time you book your session.

As a member paying a direct debit you can book up to 14 days in advance.  

PAYG customers can book up to  7 days in advance

The Changing Places changing facilities are available whilst Actif facilities are open; however, there may be reduced availability when the hydrotherapy pool is in use.

There is no time limit on the use of the room; however, you are required to place your belongings in the free-to-use lockers provided so that others can access the changing room whilst you enjoy your activity.

The Changing Places changing facilities has additional floor space, adjustable bed, toilet, adjustable sink, shower with privacy curtain and a track hoist, enabling movement within the changing room and transfer to the hydrotherapy pool, if required.

When you speak to a member of staff they will discuss your requirements to ensure that the  Changing Places changing room is the most appropriate area for you.

Yes, you will need to bring your own hoist sling.  This will be discussed at the time of booking. Make and model – Air Rise 350.

On arrival, make your way to the Actif Customer Services and a member of staff will guide you to the changing area.

If using the Changing Places changing rooms you will be required to store your belongings in the free-to-use lockers in the wetside changing rooms.

The main pool has a pool pod for wheelchair users.

There is also a mobile hoist that can be used for small, main and hydrotherapy pools.

There is a Track Hoist to assist with transferring user between the Changing Places and hydrotherapy pool.

Yes, the changing facilities are all on the ground floor.
