Nominate your local sporting hero for an award!

Do you know an individual, coach, volunteer or club who has demonstrated outstanding sporting achievements? Make sure that their efforts are recognised by nominating them for an Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Award!

Each year the prestigious annual Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Awards gives the opportunity to recognise and celebrate sporting talent that we have in Carmarthenshire from sportsmen and women, dedicated coaches and committed volunteers, all of which make sport happen right here in the county.

The awards are organised by Carmarthenshire County Council's Sport and Leisure Team and supported by a number of partners and sponsors.

As well as the Sports Personality of the Year, the categories include Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Disabled Sportsperson of the Year, Community Sports Coach and High Performance Sports Coach of the Year, Volunteer and Inspring Young Person of the Year, Sports Team, Young Team, Sports Club of the Year and Outstanding Services to Sport Award.

Eligibility: Those eligible for an award must either;

  • have been born in Carmarthenshire,
  • be currently resident in Carmarthenshire
  • be representing a Carmarthenshire Club or School in their sport if living in another county

Athletes, coaches & volunteers can be nominated for multiple awards, but please use separate forms for each category.

Sports Personality of the Year Category

Open to any male or female sports person. We are looking for individuals who has -

  • Achieved success at a national / international level
  • Represented Wales and/or Great Britain within their sport
  • Shown commitment to the sport

For the nomination form, you will need to provide the following information:

Up to 3 of the nominees best achievements, including name, venue/location and date of the competition, position the nominee came in the competition and what led the nominee to competing at this competition. Whether the nominee has a Welsh/British Ranking.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Young Sportsman of the Year Category

Nominees must be in the Junior Category of their Sport and U21. We are looking for an individual who has -

  • Achieved success at a national / international level
  • Represented Wales and/or Great Britain within their sport
  • Shown commitment to the sport
  • If under 21 and have competed in a senior event, athletes can also be nominated for the Sports Personality of the Year Award

For the nomination form, you will need to provide the following information:

Up to 3 of the nominee’s best achievements, including name, venue/location and date of the competition, position the nominee came in the competition and what led the nominee to competing at this competition. Whether the nominee has a Welsh/British Ranking.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Young Sportswoman of the Year Category

Nominees must be in the Junior Category of their Sport and U21. We are looking for an individual who has -

  • Achieved success at a national / international level
  • Represented Wales and/or Great Britain within their sport
  • Shown commitment to the sport
  • If under 21 and have competed in a senior event, athletes can also be nominated for the Sports Personality of the Year Award

Disabled Sportsperson of the Year Category

Open to male or female. We are looking for an individual who has -

  • Achieved success at a national / international level
  • Represented Wales and/or Great Britain within their sport
  • Shown commitment to the sport

Up to 3 of the nominee’s best achievements, including name, venue/location and date of the competition, position the nominee came in the competition and what led the nominee to competing at this competition. Whether the nominee has a Welsh/British Ranking.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

High Performance Sports Coach of the Year Category

Open to any male or female coach who –

  • Devotes their time to coaching
  • Encourages and inspires individuals/team to be the best they can be
  • Has a coaching qualification within their sporting field
  • Coaches athletes/teams that perform at a National and/or international level

For the nomination form, you will need to provide the following information:

The role of the nominee within the school/club, The coaching qualifications the nominee holds, Up to 3 of the nominee’s best achievements, including name, venue/location and date of the competition, position in the competition and what led to competing at the competition. Brief description of the coaching activity carried out by the nominee and what impact this has made. 

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Community Sports Coach of the Year Category

Open to any male or female coach over 21. We are looking for individuals who –

  • Devotes their time to sport
  • Encourages and inspires people to be more active in sport
  • Retain participation in a local community setting
  • Has a coaching qualification within their sporting field
  • Who doesn’t get paid for their coaching role
  • Nominations are welcome from school staff for extra-curricular activities

For the nomination form, you will need to provide the following information:

The role of the nominee within the school/club, How many hours a week does the nominee coach for, The coaching qualifications the nominee holds. Brief description of the coaching activity carried out by the nominee and what impact this has made.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Sports Volunteer of the Year Category

Open to any male or female over 21. We are looking for individuals who -

  • Have a non-coaching role, such as committee member, fundraising, cutting the grass
  • Devotes their time to their role
  • Works ‘behind the scenes’ making an impact within their club / setting
  • Who doesn’t get paid for their role

For the nomination form, you will need to provide the following information:

The role of the nominee within the school/club, How many hours a week does the nominee volunteer for. Brief description of the voluntary activity carried out by the nominee and what impact this has made.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Inspiring Young Person of the Year Category

Open to any male or female aged 21 and under. We are looking for individuals who -

  • Volunteers within an organisation e.g school, sports club, youth group
  • Undertakes roles involving leading sessions, running events, officiating and/or administration in a sporting capacity
  • Has given up their time and energy to inspire others to be physically active
  • Doesn’t get paid for the work

The role of the nominee within the school/club, How many hours a week does the nominee volunteer for. Brief description of the voluntary activity carried out by the nominee and what impact this has made.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Team of the Year Category

A senior team of a club/organisation who –

  • Has achieved success at a high level within their sport
  • Represents their club as a team
  • Competes as a team in a team competition/event
  • Committed to developing and improving

Up to 3 of the nominee’s best achievements, including name, venue/location and date of the competition, position the nominee came in the competition and what led the nominee to competing at this competition.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Young Team of the Year Category

A junior team of a club/organisation who –

  • Has achieved success at a high level within their sport
  • Represents their club as a team
  • Competes as a team in a team competition/event
  • Committed to developing and improving

Up to 3 of the nominee’s best achievements, including name, venue/location and date of the competition, position the nominee came in the competition and what led the nominee to competing at this competition.

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

Sports Club of the Year Category

We are looking for a club that –

  • Proactively offers all members (players, coaches, volunteers, officials) within the club an opportunity to develop
  • Has made a significant impact on developing their sport
  • Engages with community for promotion and fundraising
  • Is affiliated to the National Governing Body of their Sport

We are looking for achievements from 1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024.

The Ryan Jones Memorial Award for Outstanding Services to Sport Category

Open to any male or female. We are looking for an individual who –

  • Has dedicated over 20 years/lifetime to sport within a community / organisation
  • Has made an impact and inspires others
  • Undertaken roles from coaching, officiating, administrative to washing the kit, preparing refreshments or general maintenance of the club
  • Who doesn’t get paid for their role
  • Is a serving member of a club

Sporting Hall of Fame

We are looking for sporting icons from Carmarthenshire to be inducted into Carmarthenshire’s Sporting Hall of Fame!

The Hall of Fame was introduced alongside the Sports Awards to honour sportsmen, sportswomen and others from Carmarthenshire who dedicated years to their sport, achieved success in world class sport, who have put Carmarthenshire on the global sporting map and who are an inspiration for the current and next generation of sporting champions.

The individual has to be retired from competition for at least 5 years.

We are looking for sporting icons who -

  • Have achieved success in world class sport, as an athlete, coach, referee or manager
  • Has been retired for a minimum of five years
  • Put Carmarthenshire on the global sporting map
  • Are an inspiration for the current and next generation of sporting champions
