Actif organises the first ever Tywi Valley Half Marathon

On Sunday, August 16, the Carmarthenshire County Council’s Actif Communities Team welcomed runners from across South Wales to the first-ever sold-out Tywi Valley Path Half Marathon.

Whether participants were chasing a personal best, training for a full marathon or taking on their first half marathon, the event was designed to welcome runners of all abilities.

Starting and finishing at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr in Ffairfach, runners took a stunning 13.1 mile, traffic-free route along the new Tywi Valley Path. Turning around at the halfway point in Llanarthne, they travelled through some of Carmarthenshire’s most beautiful landscapes.

Runners were supported by a vocal crowd made up of friends, family, and local spectators around the course.

The first male athlete home across the finish line, situated outside the secondary school, was Daniel Griffiths in a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes and 17 seconds.

Clocking 1 hour, 27 minutes and 40 seconds, local runner Tifanie Lewis was the first female athlete to complete the course.

Michael Roderick (1:12:51) and Thomas Jones (1:17:22) were second and third in the men’s race. Sioned Howells (1:28:58) and Lydia Morgan (1:29:21) occupied the other top three positions in the women’s category.

The organising team would like to say thank you to all the partners and volunteers who played a vital role at the event. They included course marshals, water-station and first aid teams to pacers, massage and refreshment providers and Welsh Athletics officials.
