Actif in partnership with Healthy Life Activities
Actif Sport and Leisure were proud to support Healthy Life Activities triathlon events once again for the second year in succession.
Healthy Life Activities offers the largest diversity of mass sports participation events in Carmarthenshire. Their events cater for individuals of all abilities, ages and allow athletes to set their own challenges.
Noelwyn Daniel and Sharon Daniel have organised over 150 top quality events for over 20 years, with the support of officials from Welsh Triathlon and British Triathlon, dedicated volunteers, local clubs and other organisations.
In addition to triathlons for older teens and adults, Healthy Life Activities also offer opportunities for children and believe in investing time and effort to ensure as many children take part in events.
Earlier this year on Bank Holiday May Day, the Carmarthen Mayor’s Fun Run Races was staged for the 41st time around the streets of the Town Centre, attracting approximately 750 runners.
The 3-loop 5K run for seniors started the day before a series of children’s races, ranging from those in nursery through to primary school and year 7 and 8 ages.
The annual race was established by Councillor Peter Hughes-Griffiths, in partnership with Carmarthen Harriers Club President Dr Hedydd Davies.
It raised money for several charities with local groups and organisations benefiting. Proceeds went to Christ Church Food Bank, Air Training Corps, Carmarthen Youth Opera, Carmarthenshire People First, Prostrate Cymru and Ty'r Cwm - Leonard Cheshire.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Carmarthen were on hand to start the races and present medals and trophies to all taking part.
Our Actif runners were awarded the Corporate Team Challenge trophy for the second year running!
Later that week on Friday 10th May, Saturday 11th May and Sunday 12th May, the Llanelli Multi-Sport Festival was held at North Dock.
Close to 200 participants entered the 6th edition of the Actif Sospan Charity Swim. Four distances were on offer for various abilities, ranging from 750m to 3000m.
It raised over £3,000 towards the work of Hywel Dda Health Board Peony Breast Care Unit at Prince Phillip Hospital.
Following this, the Swim Sharks Llanelli Junior Duathlon, British Super Series Sprint Triathlon, Llanelli ParaTriathlon and the AGILIS Llanelli Sprint Triathlon all took place during a weekend which saw athletes travel from across the United Kingdom.
The latter was a Welsh sprint championships and the first race of the 2024 Welsh Super Series, with highlights broadcasted on S4C Television.
The 2024 triathlon season in Carmarthenshire concluded at Amman Valley Leisure Centre and the surrounding area. The latest edition of the Amman Valley Sprint Triathlon was held for the 11th time.
Re-scheduled from the beginning of April due to bad weather, the popular event returned over the Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday, August 25.
More than 150 competitors participated, with several taking part in their first-ever triathlon competition.
Battling heavy showers and a strong breeze, triathletes completed a 400m pool swim before setting off on a 16km bike ride along the main road to Garnant.
The 5km run was the third discipline along the Amman Valley cycle path before heading back to the Leisure Centre grounds for a grand-stand finish down the red carpet to collect their finishers medal.
Pictured below; The open male winner was Jordan Figoni in 51:38 followed by Guto Morgans (Top Step Triathlon - 52:57) and Michael Davies (Port Talbot Harriers – 52:35).
Paige Horsnell was the first open female to finish in 1:00:03. Davies’ clubmate Ffion Williams (Port Talbot Harriers – 1:02:29) and Elena Andrews (Peak Performance Triathlon – 1:03:10) were in second and third respectively.
