The Falls Prevention Programme offers tailored weekly group exercise sessions for individuals aged 60 and above, living independently in the community, dealing with a history of falls, fear of falling, or issues with strength, mobility, and balance.

What is the Strength & Balance Programme?
This programme is designed to help you feel stronger, more stable on your feet, and reduce the risk of falls. Through tailored exercises, you'll build strength and improve balance, allowing you to move with confidence in your daily life.
Who is it for?
- Individuals 65 years and over who want to stay active and independent
- Anyone who has concerns about their balance or mobility
- Those looking to reduce their risk of falls
What will you learn?
Through the programme, you will:
- Improve confidence and reduce anxiety or depression while maintaining independance and quality of life
- Take part in exercises tailored to your individual needs and goals
- Feel strong and steady on your feet
- Benefit from group and one-to-one support - meet new people and reduce isolation or loneliness
- Learn how to get up and down from the floor safely
- Develop floor management skills and coping strategies to deal with a fall
Where are classes delivered?
Our Strength & Balance classes are delivered in Community venues and our Leisure Centres. All sessions are led by specialist exercise instructors from Actif Sport & Leisure, ensuring you receive expert guidance tailored to your needs. Sessions are low cost and can be paid for weekly or monthly, giving you the flexibility to choose what works best for you.
Additional Support and Resources
As part of the programme, you will also have access to:
- Tailored home programmes, exercise booklets, video links and resistance bands to support your progress outside of sessions
- Signposting, information and advice on falls prevention and related topics
- Education sessions led by health professionals on bone health, diet, medication, footcare, home safety tips and more
