About the event
The Actif Sport & Leisure Communities Team is proud to launch the first-ever sold-out Tywi Valley Path Half Marathon, taking place on Sunday 16 August 2026.
Set along the stunning new Tywi Valley Path that runs in its length between Abergwili and Llandeilo, this brand-new event offers runners a truly unique experience.
Race Details
Starting and finishing at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr in Ffairfach and the half way point in Llanarthne, this exciting race gives participants the chance to enjoy a fully traffic-free half marathon route through one of Carmarthenshire's most beautiful landscapes.
The race will start with the first wave at 9:00am. Runners will be staggered into eight groups.

Event HQ | Start and Finish: At Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, Ffairfach, Llandeilo, SA19 6PE
Map of the Route
This is an out and back course. The route follows the Tywi Valley Path from Ffairfach to the half way point just after Llanarthne. Runners will turn around and make their way back to Ysgol Bro Dinefwr to the finish line.
You will receive a route map in your race pack.
Race Number Collection
We strongly encourage all runners to collect their race bib before race day where possible. Race collection will be available at the following location during the week of the race:
Wednesday 12 August: Canolfan Pentre Awel, Llanelli (12:00-18:00)
Thursday 13 August: Amman Valley Leisure Centre (12:00-18:00)
Friday 14 August: Carmarthen Leisure Centre (12:00-18:00)
If you are unable to attend one of the collection events, bibs can be collected from the Event Village on race morning between 07:00am and 08:00am.
Bag Drop Off
A secure baggage area will operate at the Sports Hall from 7:00am on race day.
Please use the baggage label supplied with your race pack and attach your label securely to your bag.
Ensure your bib number is clearly visible and do not leave valuables.
Car Parking
Parking around the event is limited.
Please consider car-sharing where possible. Available parking locations include:
- Ysgol Bro Dinefwr (no exit until last runner finishes around 1pm)
- Tregib Sports Facilities, Bethlehem Road, SA19 6TB
- Llandeilo Mart, Towy Terrace, SA19 6ST
- Llandeilo Town Car Park (Crescent Road)

Where does the Half Marathon start and finish?
The start and finish line will be in the same location, outside the grounds of Ysgol Bro Dinefwr in Ffairfach, SA19 6PE

What time does it start?
The race begins with the first wave at 9:00am. Runners start times will be staggered into several waves, eight in total.

Where can I collect my race number?
Our preference is that all runners collect their race bib before the day where possible.
Race collection will be available at the following location during the week of the race:

Can a friend or family member collect a number on behalf of a participant?
Yes, a friend or family member will be able to collect a number on someone else's behalf, however please note that you will need to bring a confirmation email when collecting the number.

Can I transfer my place to someone else?
Unfortunately, entries cannot be transferred to another participant. However, if you're unable to attend, you can defer your entry to next year's event.

How do I know which wave I'm in?
Your allocated wave colour will be on your race bib.
Runners should enter the pen matching their colour and expected finish time. Starting with runners of similar pace helps improve safety and gives everybody a better race experience.

Are there any race closures I need to be aware of?
Road closures will be implemented on parts of the race route from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout this period
Road closures will be implemented after the race begins in parts of:
- Cilsan Bridge (Gelli Aur College)
- Dryslwyn
- Llanarthne
There will be no road closures on the main road outside Ysgol Bro Dinefwr area.

Where can I park my car?
Parking around the event is limited.
Please consider car-sharing where possible. Available parking locations include:
Ysgol Bro Dinefwr
Please note that if you park at this location, you will not be able to leave the car park until the final runner has crossed the finish line, which is expected to be around 1:00pm.
Tregib Sports Facilities
Please expect some congestion, as both entry and exit use the same access point. However, you are free to leave at any time. Approximately 100-120 parking spaces are available.
Llandeilo Mart
You may leave at any time. Approximately 200 parking spaces are available.
Llandeilo Town Car Park (Crescent Road)
This is a pay-and-display car park, and parking charges may apply. Approximately 190 parking spaces are available.

Will there be pacers at the event?
Pacers will be available across a range of target finish times, from 1:30 to 3:30.
They will be easily identifiable carrying official pace flags.
Pacers are experienced runners who aim to maintain a steady pace throughout the course.

Is there a cut off time?
The official event cut-off time is 4 hours.
For participant safety and road reopening requirements:
- All runners must reach approximately 13km within 2 hours 29 minutes.
- Tail walkers will follow the final participants.
- Participants behind cut-off points may be asked to leave the course.

Toilet Facilities
There are toilets along the course route and at the event hub between the school and sportshall.

Will there be water on the course?
Water stations will be located at approximately:
- 4 km
- 8 km
- 10km
- 11km
- 13km
- 17km

What happens after I finish?
Once across the finish line:
- Collect your finisher medal
- Receive refreshments and water
- Celebrate your achievement with family and friends
Please keep moving through the finish funnel and follow steward instructions.

Will there be a medal for finishers?
Yes. Every finisher will receive a medal at the finish line.

Where can I find my result?
This event will be chipped timed meaning every runner will get their own finish time once they cross the mat. Provisional results will be available online shortly after the event.

Medical Support
Professional medical staff will be available at the start and finish and along the route at key points.

Can I run with a buggy?
For safety reasons, buggies will not be permitted in the Half Marathon.
The course is shared with other runners and includes sections that may be narrow, so to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, we ask that runners do not take part with a buggy.

Is the race accessible for wheelchair users?
Yes. If you are a wheelchair user, please contact us on actifcommunities@carmarthenshire.gov.uk to let us know beforehand.

What is the minimum age for the half marathon?
All participants need to be at least 18 years old on the day of the Tywi Valley Half Marathon.

Can I have a refund if I can’t run?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any refunds for this event.

Can I register on the day?
The event has sold out. No additional entries are available this year.

Can I wear headphones during the race?
Unfortunately, headphones are not permitted during the half marathon event unless they are bone conducting.
This is to ensure the health and safety of everyone taking part and enables runners to be able to hear any instructions from marshals.

Are there races for children?
No. There won’t be any children races, however there will be sporting activities for younger ages on offer at the Event Hub situated outside Ysgol Bro Dinefwr.

Spectator Information
Support along the course can make a huge difference to runners.
Whether you're cheering on friends and family or simply enjoying the event atmosphere, there's plenty to see and do throughout the day.
Recommended spectator locations include:
- Ysgol Bro Dinefwr (Start & Finish)
- Gelli Aur College (Approx. at miles 2.5 and 10.5)
These locations provide excellent viewing opportunities while allowing supporters to see runners more than once.
A variety of vendors will be attending on the day, offering refreshments and treats for spectators and participants. Vendors are expected to include brownies and sweet treats, Ice cream, Hot drinks and more
